It might look like something went horribly wrong in the images above, but the psychedelic colors and patterns are actually deliberate. Peter Hoffman coated his negatives with a tiny bit of gasoline.

After letting it burn for a few split seconds, Peter quickly extinguishes the flame and prints the image from the newly ‘ruined’ negative.

What does a pro water sports photographer’s camera bag look like?

Pete Webb’s 5D DSLR and pocket wizard sit inside a custom built waterproof case.

He then has a swimmer swim alongside him at 90º with an external flash that’s safe inside a transparent waterproof bag. Rad. (Watch some vids!)

RANT: Why are Wedding Photographers SO expensive?

Last night, I had a lengthy discussion with a bride(zilla) who could not for the life of her understand why I wouldn’t give her wedding 8 hours of coverage for under $1000….

I tell people I’ll work with their budget and I mean it. What I will not do is let you guilt trip me into shooting your wedding for nothing. There is a reason you can’t find a qualified photographer to shoot your wedding for this amount of money….because its a ridiculous request.

You have no problem dropping over a grand on a dress, couple hundred dollars on hair & makeup, for what? To look beautiful on you wedding day, right? And how are you going to remember your wedding day?

WITH YOUR PICTURES!!!!

So why on earth would you want your pictures to be taken by someone who does not have the proper equipment, the proper cameras, the right lenses to make sure they can actually see you in your dimly lit reception, and knows how to use flash photography. You spent all this money for your beautiful day and you want to skimp on the one method you have to remember it all? I just don’t get it.

Yes, I understand that you don’t have $5000+ to spend on a wedding, but there are plenty of photographers who charge $2000-$4000. Yes, its a lot of money. But you truly get what you pay for! Wouldn’t you want something that you pass along to your future generations to look at to be timeless, classic, and beautiful? I have cheaper packages for brides on a budget, but you can’t expect to get the full monty for chimp change.

Actually, I’ve got it. I’ll shoot your wedding for $1000 all day….just hand me several disposable cameras and I’ll just give them to you for you to get developed at CVS. That I will do. Hell, I’ll do it for $200.

To prove I’m not the only who feels this way, here’s some blog posts on the matter….
